Five months after former writing partners Alex
Kurtzman and Roberto Orci announced they
were dissolving their partnership, Alex Kurtzman
has formed a new company entitled Secret
Hideout, signing a new three-year first-look deal
with Universal Pictures.
We reported in July that Alex Kurtzman is
teaming up with screenwriter/producer Chris
Morgan to create a new Universal Pictures
monster movie franchise, which will kick off with
the Untitled Mummy Reboot that Alex Kurtzman
is directing and is set for release on June 24,
2016. He is also producing The Vampire
Chronicles , a rebooted adaptation of Anne Rice 's
novel that was announced last month, along
with Dragonology and Locke & Key for Universal,
and Now You See Me 2 for Lionsgate.
Alex Kurtzman will be joined by Jeb Brody, who
currently serves as the president of Focus
Features, and Bobby Cohen as producers. Kim
Rosen is also joining the company from K/O as
the head of digital and interactive. The company
will be adding additional offices on the Universal
Pictures lot.
Bobby Cohen comes from Alex Kurtzman's
former company with Roberto Orci, K/O Paper
Products. Jeb Brody will continue to oversee
Focus' highly-anticipated adaptation Fifty
Shades of Grey, which hits theaters this
February.
