Ridley Scott Casts White Men To Play Egyptians, Explains His Choices BY ERIC EISENBERG

Despite the fact that Ridley Scott's new
movie Exodus: Gods and Kings in largely set
in ancient Egypt, you'll notice that the cast of
lead actors is basically completely dominated
by white dudes. Bringing the titular biblical
story to life will be the likes of Christian Bale
as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Ramses.
Over the past few months, the movie has
been dealing with a bit of controversy due to
this aspect - some moviegoers claiming
"whitewashing" - and as a result
representatives for the movie, like Edgerton ,
have had to explain why the casting was
handled the way it was. Now the film's
director is finally weighing in with his point of
view on the matter, and one of the ways he's
doing so is by pointing at some interesting
information about the real-life demographics
of the story's setting.
Ridley Scott's comments come to us from
Yahoo! Australia , where a Q&A with the
filmmaker reveals why he felt the need to put
together what is referred to as a
"international cast." In his explanation, the
Oscar-nominated director made note that
that the country of Egypt at the time had
diverse populace due to the fact that it was
smack dab right in the middle of the growing
world, between Africa, the Middle East and
Europe. Said Scott,
"We cast major actors from
different ethnicities to reflect this
diversity of culture, from Iranians
to Spaniards to Arabs. There are
many different theories about the
ethnicity of the Egyptian people,
and we had a lot of discussions
about how to best represent the
culture."
That said, looking at other parts of the
interview suggest that the idea of ethnicity
perhaps didn't play that big of a role in
Scott's mind when casting Christian Bale as
Moses in Exodus: Gods and Kings . Instead,
the filmmaker said that he met the Welsh
actor "four or five years ago" and that at that
point they immediately knew that they
wanted to work together. Scott thought of
Bale for Moses when he began thinking about
the character as being a larger than life figure
who needed to be played as a "real person."
Likewise, he says that he first saw Joel
Edgerton work during tryouts for Kingdom of
Heaven .
Had Ridley Scott been directly asked about
not casting Middle Eastern actors to play
Moses and Ramses his answers to questions
about Bale and Edgerton may have been
different, but what I gather from this
interview is that the director wasn't really
looking at race when he was finding his leads
- he was just looking at talent. He likens
putting the cast together as being similar to
putting together a talented soccer team,
saying that he requires strong partnerships.
But is that enough of an explanation?

Here's What Bryan Singer's Dropped Molestation Charges Might Mean For X-Men

Right around the time his massive mutant
sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past was due
to reach theaters, director Bryan Singer was
slapped with a sexual assault lawsuit. The
timing of the suit raised questions, and some
of those still linger, even as the legal system
granted a request to dismiss the case
against Singer earlier this week.
U.S. district judge Susan Oki Mollway
granted a motion filed by Bryan Singer’s
accuser, Michael Egan, for voluntary
dismissal in U.S. District Court in Hawaii on
Wednesday, according to The Wrap . This was
the latest step in a series of setbacks for
Egan, who lost his attorney in May and also
dropped similar suits against former
entertainment executives.
However, The Wrap notes that Egan’s suit
was dismissed "without prejudice," meaning
that he has the freedom to refile against
Singer at a later date if he so chooses – an
option that Singer’s legal team tried to fight,
but lost.
Singer's attorney, Marty Singer, told The
Wrap that there is "absolutely no settlement"
between Michael Egan and the director, and
that: "We're very pleased and my client is
looking forward to moving on."
What does "moving on" entail? It likely
means that Bryan Singer will be able to step
back into the director’s chair for 20tht
Century Fox’s next mutant adventure, X-Men:
Apocalypse . The studio had greenlit a sequel
to Days of Future Past before that film had
even opened, going so far as to include an
introductory scene to the potential villain,
Apocalypse , in the closing credits of the
smash-hit summer blockbuster.
But in the days and weeks following the
release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Bryan
Singer and his camp were in radio silence, to
the point where his involvement in X-Men:
Apocalypse was in doubt. Given the
overwhelming success – both critically and
financially – of Days of Future Past, you can
understand why Fox would want to keep
Singer in the fold for Apocalypse . He has a
clear vision for the mutant universe, and has
been working hard with screenwriter Simon
Kinberg on the mapping of the steps that
should take place in the story’s next chapter.

MacGruber 2 Has An Outline, Might Actually Happen

While MacGruber wasn't a hit at the box
office or with critics, the action-comedy's
reputation has grown in the years since its
release. But could fan fervor lead to
MacGruber 2? It's would-be star Will Forte
weighs in.
While promoting his upcoming release Life of
Crime, Will Forte offered an update on the
development of MacGruber 2. Speaking to
Collider, he said:
"I’m very proud of that movie.
(Director) Jorma [Taccone] just
sent an outline for MacGruber 2 .
We had worked together on
something and I had fleshed out
the first act of MacGruber 2. He
took that and went nuts on the
rest of it. I’m very excited
because I feel like at some point,
if somebody will let us do it, then
we’ll do it. But it’s out of our
hands. But we’re writing it for
sure."
To be perfectly frank, the first MacGruber
was a movie that on paper looked like a
horrible idea. A feature-length film based on
a funny but repetitive Saturday Night Live
sketch? This seemed sure to be closer to It's
Pat than The Blues Brothers. Basically,
MacGruber shouldn’t have worked. And in
traditional terms, it didn't.
MGM spent only $10 million to get the movie
made with Will Forte, Val Kilmer, Ryan Phillipe
and pre- Bridesmaids Kristen Wiig and Maya
Rudolph. But the $10-million comedy only
played in theaters for three weeks, pulling in
$8.5 million. Critics were rough, with The
New York Times A.O. Scott asking outright,
"Why does this exist?" But once the dust
settled, comedy fans began singing the
praises of this misunderstood effort,
recognizing it for the crazy diamond it is. And
before long, Forte was being asked about the
possibility of a sequel.
MacGruber director Jorma Taccone first
confessed that MacGruber 2 was a
consideration in the spring of 2012. But
shortly thereafter, Forte shut down sequel
talk, explaining, "We're proud of it, and we
jokingly talk about the sequel all the time.
But I don't think anybody in their right mind
would give us any money for it."
This seems to be a refrain he's repeating
now, but with more hope behind it. By the
following year, Will Forte was feeling good
about MacGruber 2 once, more, declaring:
"We are going to make MacGruber 2 for sure.
Whether we have to do it with a video
camera in our backyards – there will be
some form of MacGruber 2."
For the time being, it seems financing
MacGruber 2 is not an immediate concern as
Forte and Taccone as still knitting together a
script. But once it's complete, they could
have a decent pitch. First off, Kristen Wiig
has become considerably more famous since
MacGruber hit. So if she'd sign on, they'd
have some notable box office drawing power.
And if these funny filmmakers want to prove
to a producer that their sequel has an
audience, they could go the route of
Kickstarter, like Veronica Mars did.
Some creative casting and fundraising could
make MacGruber 2 a reality. But regardless, it
sounds like it's one that's still a ways off.

Ever since production started on Batman v
Superman: Dawn of Justice in Detroit, we know
that the city has been doubling for Washington
D.C. and Metropolis. Today, new photos from
Twitter users Tim Reinman and Tim Malin reveal
that the city is also being used for parts of
Gotham, particularly, the Gotham City Jail. Take a
look at the photos

These photos have some fans wondering whether
the Gotham City jail's presence hints at an
appearance by Commissioner Gordon. Of course,
that hasn't been confirmed at this time, but stay
tuned for more photos and videos from the set of
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as
production continues in Detroit.
In the DC Comics , the Gotham Jail served as a
temporary holding facility before the major
offenders were shipped off to Stonegate
Penitentiary or Arkham Asylum. It remains to be
seen how the building will be used in Batman v
Superman: Dawn of Justice, or if it will also be
used in the impending Justice League movie.

Top 5 Reasons Why Jim Iyke is Too Much...And We Love It!

Jim Iyke (James Ikechukwu Esomugha) is a
Nigerian actor and singer-songwriter. He is one of
the highest paid Nollywood actors and has
featured in over 150 films.
1 . Have you listened to Jim Iyke talk in movies?
He sounds as if he makes his own lines and
completely ignores his scripts. He is so intense!
Lol, but I love it.
2. Pay attention to some of his infamous poses
during interviews. Jim's legs are always crossed
on top of the other, as well as his fingers
between each other a majority of the time when
he is trying to make a point. As well, how dare I
forget "the shades never come off". I can't tell
you the last time I noticed eye contact during one
of his interviews.
3. He has a show called 'Jim Iyke Unscripted'
that "clearly" is partially scripted! How ironic?!
It's just not authentic enough. Even his ex-
fiancee Keturah Hamilton said she had to act as
a "crazy jealous lover" to draw attention for the
show.
4. Jimmy released an album in 2010 titled 'Who
am I?'. Myself and many others couldn't tell the
head or tail behind the reasoning of this. In his
first single also titled 'Who am I?' with TuFace, I
couldn't even identify his voice. Its funny how a
lot of Nigerian actors branch from one extreme
field to another in any kind of way. It
unfortunately didn't work out for him as planned.
5. We are all happy for his relationship with
Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari. I just think its
hilarious how couples give each other shoutouts
on social media. He confirmed their relationship
on Twitter with this comment "She calls me
Skittles. I named her Space. D gift of laughter,
companionship n trust is incomparable. BFF. Love
is a f***ing beautiful thang!".

'Batman v Superman': Jesse Eisenberg Calls Lex Luthor Complicated

While the Lex Luthor character was rumored to
be a part of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of
Justice story, no one was expecting Warner
Bros. to cast 30-year-old Jesse Eisenberg as
the iconic villain back in January. With
production on the DC superhero adventure still
ongoing, Total Film caught up with Jesse
Eisenberg, who revealed he didn't take on this
iconic role for just a paycheck. In fact, he would
have taken on the role for free.
"My father always cautions me against thinking
of something as a means to some other end,
because then its irresponsible to the 'means'
thing...They asked me if I wanted to play the
part before they sent me the script. I'm not sure
how it worked, but it's something I read with
the understanding that I could do the role, If I...
[stops] You know, they don't just hand the
scripts out. But I really liked it on its own terms.
I would do it if it was for free and it was tiny."
He also spoke about working with screenwriter
Chris Terrio to figure out who Lex Luthor really
is.
"There are some indications of how the
character should behave based on the script,
and then an actor makes it his or her own. I got
to know one of the writers really well, Chris
Terrio , and we were able to discuss things at
length and figure out who this person is to
create a real psychology behind what is,
perhaps, in a comic book, a less than totally
modern psychology. I can only say I've been
asked to play an interesting role: a complicated,
challenging person."
When asked about if he would be able to walk
down the street without being noticed after
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes
out, the actor had this to say.
"I've been in things that have been popular
before. To say, I can't do that which will appear
in thousands of theaters on opening day, but I
can do this which will appear in this amount of
theaters... It's arbitrary. I realize how popular
comic-book movies are, and now, working on
one, I realize why they're popular - the story is
really good, the dialogue is really good, the
artistry behind every department is high, the
acting is really good. So if they're all put
together with that level of quality..."

I Can Sleep With Producers For Movie Roles—Nollywood Actress, Tessy Oragwa

A Nollywood actress, Tessy Oragwa, has spoken
on the widely talked about affair for movie roles in
Nollywood. The gap-toothed actress said it is a
personal decision and should not be opened to
criticism.
According to her, the issue happens in all sectors,
but more pronounced in the entertainment
industry because celebrities are in the eyes of
many.
Tessy pointed out that as far as a woman is
concerned, she will always be approached by
guys and it will be left for her to make a choice of
what to do.
“There is no discrimination about that, but don’t
make it look like you are being harassed or forced
to do what you do not want to do. You have a
mind of your own and you are mature enough to
take decisions,” she said.
The actress also denied ever having such
experience, but admitted that any producer
approaches her and he is good, she could agree
just for fun. “No, I don’t think anybody would
want to do such a thing to me. When you
approach me and you are good, I might decide to
take a decision and have my fun,” she declared.

Baba Suwe Finally Over The Death Of His Wife, Plans To Remarry

Nigerian Comic Actor, Babatunde
Omidina aka Baba Suwe was distraught
after the loss of his wife, Omoladun in
2009. Omoladun appeared with him in
most of the popular Yoruba films when
she was alive. The actor is now set to
remarry again. In a recent interview, he
said:
How have you been coping without a wife?
It has not been easy but life must go on.
I believe whatever happens has been
pre-ordained. The death of Omoladun
was a great loss I cannot get over in this
lifetime. She will remain my best
companion. She understood me than
any other person on planet earth. At
times when we quarrel in the house, she
would abuse me on set and that would
mark the end of the issue.
Any plan of remarrying?
Yes . In fact pretty soon.
Who is the lucky bride?
You can’t know her for now. She is not
an actress because I can’t marry an
actress again.
Are you insinuating Omoladun was not a
good wife?
No, I don’t mean anything of such.
What I mean is that I cannot get
someone like Omoladun among the
actresses again. Her good acting skills is
one of the reasons I loved her but I have
decided to check else where for love.
After the death of Omoladun, your step
daughter accused you of killing her
mother?
That is mere rumour. She later came out
to say she never said that. We were all
staying in the same building. Omoladun
was hypertensive for a long time and I
did my best as a husband, a friend, and
colleague to take adequate care of her.
At a time she spent months at a
hospital. The day the bad incident
happened, I was about praying when I
told my child to go wake Omoladun
because we had an appointment. It was
this child who ran out to call me and
with the help of neighbors, we rushed
her to the hospital. The doctor
confirmed her death on arrival.
Has her death affected your career?
Not really. There are many people who
can take her role but I miss her so
much. After her death, I produced
“Baba Jaiye” part two and it was a huge
success.

'Gone Girl' Photos; Ben Affleck Says It's the Perfect Date Movie

With the exception of a couple House of Cards
episodes, David Fincher returns this fall with Gone
Girl, his first directorial effort since 2011's The
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It is yet another
thriller based on a popular novel. This time, the
director is adapting the works of Gillian Flynn and
he calls it the date movie that will "end 15 million
marriages". Star Ben Affleck has a slightly
different take on this story of a husband accused
of his wife's murder after she goes missing. He,
instead, believes it's the perfect date movie.
Check out three new photos featuring Ben Affleck
and Rosamund Pike as Nick and Amy Dunne, as
well as Neil Patrick Harris as Amy's ex Desi and
Carrie Coon, as Nick's sister Margo. Then read
on for more of what Ben Affleck has to say about
this dark thriller.
Speaking with Empire for their upcoming October
issue, Ben Affleck reflected on the powerful nature
of the story held within Gone Girl , and what that
might mean for couples who watch it together.
Gone Girl follows happily married couple Nick and
Amy Dunne, and what happens when the wife
goes missing. Ben Affleck offers these thoughts:
"I actually think this is the perfect date movie,
not because I think it'll result in divorce - I think
that's just David 's fantasy - but because it's the
kind of movie that a husband and wife could talk
about afterwards. I think a man and a woman
would have different takes on what happens. The
last time I was in a movie that I thought
polarised men and women in an interesting way
was Chasing Amy . That was quite some time
ago."
Co-star Rosamund Pike , seen in the photo above
working alongside director David Fincher , had this
to say about those aspects of the movie:
"That aspect of marriage as a con game, or
whatever. The idea that we perform a sort of
ideal version of ourselves that the other person
wants. We perhaps belie our true nature in order
to perform to the ideal. David and I talked a lot
about living in an age of rampant narcissism."

Does Warner Bros. Have a No Jokes Rule for DC Movies?

"Why so serious?" Is the popular refrain floating
around as the rumor about Warner Bros.' 'No
Joke' rule rapidly spreads across the Internet.
According to a report at Hit Fix , The studio
doesn't want any funny business in its
impending slate of DC Comics superhero
movies, a mandate that began with Man of Steel
in 2013 and will continue on as WB sets up
Justice League.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be a
completely serious affair according to this new
report, so don't expect to see Jesse Eisenberg
hamming it up as Lex Luthor. It won't be
anywhere close to what Gene Hackman did in
the 1978 Superman . This has struck some as
ludicrous, due to the sometimes colorful and
humorous tone of the comic books. And this
comes just as Marvel is making a name for
itself with its equal measure of laughs and
action in most of its movies. Guardians of the
Galaxy was a very funny affair, but it also
managed to bring in a lot of heart and
character. It had a very emotional opening
prologue, and proved to be the perfect mix of
genre elements.
Warner Bros. doesn't want that, is the claim.
They tried their hand at bringing humor into
Green Lantern and it didn't work out for the
studio, which many believe is the reason for this
new 'no jokes' ruling. While Christopher Nolan 's
The Dark Knight set up some good jokes and
delivered a few very funny punchlines, they did
nothing to distract from the overall dark tone of
the trilogy. You could hardly call it a 'comedy'.
Man of Steel , on the other hand, decided to play
it completely straight, and while there are a few
precious moments of levity throughout, there are
no true jokes. And it did not illicit many laughs
from the audience. That's the way Warner Bros.
apparently likes it, so don't expect Zack Snyder
to change the tone for Batman v Superman:
Dawn of Justice.
This next DC Comics movie will pave the way
for Justice League and it's spin-off movies. All
of the superhero solo adventures will stay within
these serious barometers, which is said to be
causing some difficulty in locking down a
director.
Most believe it wasn't the jokes that caused
Green Lantern to bomb at the box office, and
that Warner Bros. and DC are pointing their
concerns in the wrong direction. Fans and critics
alike not only felt the punchlines fell flat, but
that it had a bad storyline, unlikable characters,
and one truly horrible villain. It was a hard
movie to connect with on a lot of levels, the
humor being the least of it's problems. Some
have complained that Man of Steel was just too
darn serious; that it needed a couple of good
jokes to bringing it up to classic status. While
fans have called the movie serviceable, it fails
on some levels because of its 'no joke' stance.
If this latest rumor is true, it only further proves
that Warner Bros. and DC are at a loss for how
to move forward with their impending superhero
slate, which has a number of movies lined up
throughout 2020.
Do you think Warner and DC should distance
themselves from Marvel by continuing to go
down this dark and edgy path? Or do you think
it would be smart for them to bring in some
humor? These are Gods among men, after all..

B-town A-listers who got injured on film sets

Bollywood is ruled by stars who
deliver the best of the Indian cinema
laden with action, fiction and stunts.
But the glamour attached to the action
packed films comes at a price. As the
films edge towards real action and
actors turn sporty to not use a body-
double, accidents are bound to happen.
Hrithik Roshan suffered a head injury
while shooting an action scene for
'Bang Bang' whereas Shah Rukh Khan
fractured his shoulder and knee on the
sets of 'Happy New Year'. Look how
the B-town A-listers suffered grievous
injuries on the sets of their films.

Kavita Radheshaym gets dirty for Rajinikanth's biopic

Kavita Radheshyam is going places. The sexy
lass, who is considered the Silk Smitha of
today, is rumoured to be doing a bold and
raunchy role in the upcoming Hindi-Tamil
bilingual 'Main Hoon Rajinikanth.
Kavita, who is said to be starring opposite
Adithya Menon in the film, is reported to be
playing a high-class sex worker. The Hindi film
is probably the first to have a lot of South
Indian actors visiting its sets. Ragini Dwivedi is
one of the many Sandalwood stars to have
been on the set recently.

'In the Heat of the Night' TV Series Reboot in Development at MGM

Help director Tate Taylor is teaming up with
Warren Littlefield to develop a new TV series
based on the 1967 Best Picture winner In The
Heat Of The Night.
The original film starred Sidney Poitier as an
Africa-American detective named Virgil Tibbs,
who is asked to investigate a murder in a
racially volatile Southern town. Rod Steiger won
an Oscar for playing the small-town sheriff who
objects to Mr. Tibbs' presence.
The new series will be set in present day
Mississippi, Tate Taylor's home state, examining
race, inequality and prejudice through
contemporary characters. The project will be
shopped to cable networks over the next few
weeks.
During his time as an NBC programming
executive, Warren Littlefield developed an earlier
version of In the Heat of the Night TV series
which starred Carroll O'Connor and Howard E.
Rollins Jr. The show ran between 1988 and
1995, with four seasons airing on NBC and CBS
picking up the remainder of the series.

'Underworld' Reboot Is in Development

After 11 years and four movies, Lakeshore
Entertainment is rebooting the Underworld
franchise, hiring Cory Goodman ( Priest) to write
the script. No story details were given for the
reboot.
Kate Beckinsale starred as the vampire "death
dealer" Selene in the first Underworld , which
debuted in 2003 and followed the war between
the vampires and their sworn enemies, the
lycans, a.k.a. werewolves.
The actress returned for the sequel Underworld:
Evolution in 2006, although she did not star in
the 2009 prequel Underworld 3: The Rise of The
Lycans , which featured Michael Sheen and
Rhona Mitra . 2012's Underworld Awakening was
the final feature within the franchise, which has
earned $458.2 million worldwide through all four
movies.
Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg and
Gary Lucchesi are producing, but there is no
production schedule set at this time.
Cory Goodman 's other feature writing credits
include Apollo 18 and upcoming projects such
as The Last Witch Hunter, Lore and Kung Fu

'Trazan' Set Photos Reveal Margot Robbie as Jane

Margot Robbie caught the world's attention in
last Christmas' The Wolf of Wall Street , and now
she's back in her next film, playing the iconic
Jane in Tarzan. Harry Potter and the Deathly
Hallows director David Yates is currently shooting
this updated adventure based on the works of
Edgar Rice Burroughs in the UK. Check out
Margot Robbie on set as Jane Porter, wife of
Tarzan ( Alexander Skarsgård ), seen here with a
caged native and Casper Crump as Captain
Kerchover.

It has been years since the man once known as
Tarzan left the jungles of Africa behind for a
gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke,
with his beloved wife, Jane at his side. Now, he
has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a
trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is
a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and
revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain
Leon Rom. But those behind the murderous plot
have no idea what they are about to unleash.

'Marvel's Agent Carter' Casts Chad Michael Murray and Enver Gjokaj

Marvel announced today that Chad Michael
Murray and Enver Gjokaj have signed on to play
series regulars in ABC's mid-season comic book
adventure Marvel's Agent Carter , alongside
Hayley Atwell as the title character. Take a look
at the official press release from Marvel, then
read on for new details on the series from
directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo .
When Hayley Atwell reprises her role as
Peggy Carter in the hotly-anticipated
Marvel's Agent Carter , series debuting on
ABC in 2015, she won't embark on her new
adventures alone!
Marvel is proud to announce the signing of
two key series regulars, as Chad Michael
Murray ( Fruitvale Station, One Tree Hill ) has
been cast in the role of SSR Agent Jack
Thompson, while Enver Gjokaj ( Dollhouse )
will portray Agent Daniel Sousa, both of
whom will meet Carter while she takes on a
new role at the SSR in New York City.
Marvel's Agent Carter , starring Captain
America: The First Avenger 's Hayley Atwell,
follows the story of Peggy Carter. It's 1946,
and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious
blow as she finds herself marginalized when
the men return home from fighting abroad.
Working for the covert SSR (Strategic
Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance
doing administrative work and going on
secret missions for Howard Stark all while
trying to navigate life as a single woman in
America, in the wake of losing the love of
her life--Steve Rogers. Inspired by the
feature films Captain America: The First
Avenger and Captain America: The Winter
Soldier , along with the short Marvel One-
Shot: Agent Carter .
Starring Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy
Carter, Marvel's Agent Carter was written by
Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Executive producers are Tara Butters,
Michele Fazekas, Christopher Markus ,
Stephen McFeely, Chris Dingess , Kevin Feige ,
Louis D'Esposito , Alan Fine , Joe Quesada,
Stan Lee and Jeph Loeb .
Marvel's Agent Carter is produced by ABC
Studios and Marvel Television.

Although the fall TV season will kick off in the
next couple of weeks, Marvel fans will still have
to wait a few more months for ABC's Marvel's
Agent Carter , which is slated to debut sometime
next year with an eight-episode season. We
reported last month that Captain America: The
Winter Soldier directors Anthony Russo and Joe
Russo are directing the second and third
episodes of Season 1, and the filmmakers
offered new details about their involvement in an
interview with Collider.
Before taking on Captain America: The Winter
Soldier , the brothers were best known for their
work on hit TV comedies such as Community
and Arrested Development . However, Anthony
Russo revealed they were asked to direct two
episodes because Marvel's Louis D'Esposito
wanted to bring in filmmakers connected to the
Captain America universe.
"This is very much a baby project of Louis
D'Esposito who's one of the co-heads at
Marvel. He directed the Marvel One-Shot that
the series is based on, so he asked us. It's kind
of nice to get the people who have been
connected to the Captain America storyline
involved in helping to launch that show about a
character who's so critical to this universe."
Joe Russo also spoke about how glad they were
Marvel and ABC decided to go with a shorter
format with just eight episodes in Season 1.
"And we love that they're doing a limited run of
it because it's easier to maintain quality over a
lower amount of episodes. I think everything's
lined up for a really, really good show there. Like
you said, high concept, it only sustains for a
certain amount of episodes then you just start
treading water. So then you just reach a point
where you're like, 'Okay 14 of our episodes are
gonna be great and 8 are gonna be fine,'
because you just can't fill 22 episodes of high
concept... [Eight episodes] is great because it's
a period show so it allows them to have a
larger budget, eight's the right number, eight is
an eight-hour movie. Everything makes sense
about it, I'm glad that it's being done in this
format."
Anthony Russo added how tough it is to deliver
a full season's worth of 22 great episodes.
"We've been saying this for years, because
working in network television it's so hard to
deliver that many episodes; it's brutal-
especially with a show that has an ambitious
production dimension to it. It's crushing."
The filmmakers are currently developing Captain
America 3, which hits theaters in May 2016,
which means they won't be too involved with
the show past the two episodes they're
directing, according to Anthony Russo .
