Mark Ruffalo Emails 'Star Wars 8' Director, Desperate to Be Cast

With just three feature films under his belt ( Brick,
The Brothers Bloom and Looper ), writer-director
Rian Johnson landed the gig of a lifetime back in
June, when he was tapped to write and direct
both Star Wars: Episode VIII and Star Wars:
Episode IX . With J.J. Abrams currently directing
Star Wars: Episode VII, slated for release on
December 18, 2015, we likely won't hear anything
about the second two sequels for quite some
time, although one actor revealed recently that he
personally emailed the director in hopes of getting
a Star Wars role.
Three years before he became the Hulk in
Marvel's The Avengers, Mark Ruffalo played a con
man in Rian Johnson 's second feature, The
Brothers Bloom. The actor says that he contacted
the director directly, asking for any Star Wars part
he would be willing to hand out.
Here's what the actor had to say, when asked
how badly he wants to perform in a Star Wars
movie.
"Desperately. My e-mail to Rian after all these
years was, ' Rian, congratulations on everything
you've been doing. And by the way, if there's a
part in Star Wars , please, anything, please
consider considering me to join you.'"
When asked if he would consider a much smaller
role, where he would be required to wear a mask
that covers his face, Mark Ruffalo said he would
even consider that.
"Possibly, depending on timing. I love hanging out
with Rian so that's interesting to me but I would
like a role."
He also spoke about the possibility of a CGI or
motion capture role, following his work on
Marvel's The Avengers and Avengers: Age of
Ultron.
"It'd be nice to have something. And honestly,
even a CGI role. I am thrilled about motion
capture. It's been a journey for me to get there.
After this last Avengers and the work we're doing
with that, and the advancement of the technology
even since the first Avengers , I'm so excited
about where we can go with motion capture. I
hope that I'm on the front line of this kind of new
frontier of creativity and performance that is
completely boundless. Definitely be interested in
doing something like that for Star Wars ."
Rian Johnson himself jokingly responded to Mark
Ruffalo quotes earlier today, by referring to the
Columbo movie Twitter campaign started by Star
Wars spin-off writer Gary Whitta earlier this
summer.
