Nightwing to Lead 'Teen Titans' Live Action TV Series for TNT

TNT is nearing a pilot deal for a new TV series
based on the popular DC Comics title Teen
Titans, which will simply be called Titans. The
character Nightwing will lead the group, with the
pilot being co-written by Akiva Goldsman, best
known for his I Am Legend and A Beautiful Mind
screenplays.
Akiva Goldsman is co-penning the pilot script
with Marc Haimes , an executive turned writer.
Titans centers on former Batman side-kick Dick
Grayson (aka Robin) who emerges from the
shadows of The Dark Knight as Nightwing to
lead his own fearless band of superheroes,
which may include Starfire and Raven. While no
other characters are mentioned by name in the
source story, also part of the group in the DC
Comics and animated series are Cyborg
(rumored to be making an appearance in
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Beast
Boy and Terra. It is not known which characters
will actually make it into the final version of the
show.
Akiva Goldsman will serve as an executive
producer, while Marc Haimes is co-executive
producer. The show, if it moves forward, with be
produced by WBTV's cable division Warner
Horizon.
WBTV already has two animated series' based
on the title, Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go! ,
airing on TNT's sister channel Cartoon Network.
Warner Bros. TV is greatly expanding its DC
branding on the small screen, going from one to
four series this year, with Arrow and The Flash
on The CW, Gotham on Fox and Constantine on
NBC. The studio is also prepping Supergirl ,
which may be titled Super or Girl.
Titans is one of three TNT drama pilots awaiting
a green light as the cable network undergoes a
regime transition. Also awaiting a pilot order are
the Amblin TV produced Lumen and Cocaine
Cowboys from producers Jerry Bruckheimer and
Michael Bay.
